ABOUT
About Afterfaith Counseling Service
Afterfaith Counseling Service was created to support individuals navigating the emotional and psychological impact of harmful religious experiences.
Many clients come to counseling carrying years of fear, shame, self-doubt, perfectionism, or confusion connected to faith communities or high-control belief systems. Others are processing grief after losing a religious identity, community, or worldview that once shaped their entire life.
These experiences are often deeply personal and difficult to talk about — especially with people who may not understand the complexity involved.
Our goal is to provide a calm, respectful, and supportive environment where clients can safely explore their experiences and reconnect with themselves.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We Believe Healing Is Not About Telling People What to Believe
Instead, counseling should help individuals:
Develop trust in their own thoughts and emotions
Explore identity without fear or pressure
Build healthier relationships and boundaries
Reduce anxiety, shame, and self-criticism
Create meaning and purpose on their own terms
We welcome clients who identify as religious, spiritual, questioning, agnostic, secular, or undecided.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What Clients Can Expect
Counseling is collaborative, compassionate, and paced according to each client's comfort level. Sessions may include support for:
Processing painful religious experiences
Understanding patterns shaped by fear or shame
Managing anxiety and emotional overwhelm
Rebuilding identity after deconstruction
Navigating family or relationship conflict
Developing self-compassion and emotional resilience
Clients are never pressured toward or away from any belief system.
A SPACE FOR HONEST CONVERSATION
You Deserve to Be Heard
Many people emerging from difficult religious experiences have spent years feeling unheard, dismissed, or afraid to speak openly.
Afterfaith Counseling Service exists to provide a space where honesty, curiosity, and healing are welcomed.
